Senior Project Associate – Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS)

About the role

The Senior Project Associate will support the implementation of mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) activities for vulnerable migrants in Monrovia. Working under the Chief of Mission and the MHPSS Programme Officer, the incumbent will promote psychosocial well‑being through structured activities, awareness campaigns and community engagement.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate delivery of multilayered psychosocial support services for vulnerable migrants, from early identification to referral and follow‑up.
• Serve as focal point for psychosocial interventions, overseeing case identification, referrals and ensuring compliance with case management procedures.
• Organise psycho‑educational activities on stress management, coping strategies and social cohesion to strengthen resilience.
• Develop training materials and deliver training on Psychological First Aid to IOM staff, partners and local service providers.
• Monitor confidentiality, data protection and safeguarding standards across MHPSS activities and provide corrective guidance.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Psychology, Psychology, Social Work, Counselling or related field with at least four years of relevant experience, or high school diploma with six years of experience.
• Professional accreditation from a recognized medical, psychological or counselling association.
• Experience assessing MHPSS needs in complex emergency or post‑conflict settings and providing services in assisted voluntary return programmes.
• Prior work with migrants, refugees, IDPs or survivors of gender‑based violence in an international humanitarian context.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Knowledge of IASC MHPSS principles and IOM policies and procedures.
• Strong report‑writing and communication abilities in English.
