Director for Legal Affairs

About the role

The National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA) is seeking a Director for Legal Affairs to lead its legal function, ensure compliance with national and international obligations, and protect the Authority’s legal interests.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic legal leadership for the Authority.
• Ensure compliance with Liberian laws, international fisheries agreements, and donor‑funded program requirements.
• Safeguard the legal interests of NaFAA through effective contract management, litigation oversight, and regulatory guidance.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB); Master’s degree (LLM) or related field is an advantage.
• Admission to the Liberian Bar in good standing.
• Minimum 7 years of progressive legal experience, preferably in the public sector, regulatory agencies, or donor‑funded institutions.
• Experience in contract law, administrative law, regulatory compliance, and litigation.
• Familiarity with Liberian statutes such as the PPC Act and PFM Act, and international legal frameworks.

Required skills

• Excellent legal drafting, negotiation and analytical abilities.
• Strong knowledge of Liberian laws, regulations and administrative procedures.
• Leadership, communication and interpersonal skills to manage complex legal issues under pressure.
