Asphalt Paving Operator – Skilled Equipment Operator

About the role

The Asphalt Paving Operator is responsible for safely operating paving equipment to lay and finish hot‑mix asphalt. You will work closely with the paving superintendent, QC/QA team, and crew to ensure high‑quality road surfaces that meet project specifications.

Key responsibilities

• Perform pre‑check and post‑trip inspections of all equipment, verifying fluid levels and safety items.
• Walk the site before paving to identify hazards, existing damage, and water sources.
• Follow the daily paving plan, coordinate with QC/QA to achieve specified densities, and monitor the mat while it is still hot.
• Communicate any issues to the foreman and assist the crew with quality‑control corrections.
• Inspect and clean manholes, water valves, lids, and frames after paving.
• Clean equipment and the jobsite at shift end, and drain water systems in cold weather.
• Stage equipment correctly, train or cross‑train crew members, and adhere to safety and attendance policies.

Required profile

• Professional and courteous attitude toward coworkers, supervisors, and the public.
• At least 18 years old with a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Willingness to work nights, weekends, and overtime as needed.
• Ability to pass a drug screen and comply with federal regulations.
• Physical ability to lift up to 100 lb, stand, walk, bend, and perform repetitive motions.

Required skills

• Operation of roller, paver, screed, and skid‑steer equipment.
• Knowledge of asphalt paving processes, grades, drainage, aggregate size, and compaction.
• Experience with QC/QA coordination for density verification.
• Equipment inspection and maintenance procedures.
