Chief Surveyor – Party Chief (Hydrographic & Topographic)

About the role

DEME is seeking a Party Chief to lead all survey activities aboard its offshore and dredging vessels worldwide. You will manage a team of surveyors, ensure high‑quality hydrographic and topographic data collection, and act as a key liaison between the vessel crew and project stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and coach the on‑board survey team, providing guidance and support.
• Drive continuous improvement in survey operations by optimizing productivity and efficiency.
• Maintain transparent communication with Project Management, clients, the vessel master and crew.
• Monitor progress and quality of works using survey equipment and software.
• Ensure timely production of survey deliverables that meet the highest quality standards.
• Collaborate with the Captain, Chief Engineer and OIM to guarantee project success.

Required profile

• Diploma in hydrographic surveying, geophysics, geology, engineering or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in the survey industry.
• Strong technical knowledge of survey operations, techniques and software.
• Ability to work in challenging and remote offshore conditions.
• Excellent communication skills in English; additional languages are a plus.
• High attention to detail, quality and safety.
• Willingness to work on‑board on a rotational schedule (1:1 for offshore, 2:1 for dredging).
