Trencher Operator Trainee on Board

About the role

We are looking for a Trencher Operator Trainee to join our offshore cable‑laying vessels. You will be trained to operate and maintain trenching equipment, both mechanically and electrically, with the aim of becoming an independent Trencher Operator.

Key responsibilities

• Operate the trencher according to manufacturer manuals and shift supervisor instructions.
• Assist in mobilisation, demobilisation and project preparation.
• Perform planned maintenance, basic repairs and replacements in coordination with the shift supervisor.
• Carry out pre‑operation checks and record daily maintenance, fault and improvement logs.
• Report equipment or process issues to the shift supervisor promptly.
• Support DEME QHSE policies and ensure compliance with the project HSE plan.
• Participate in HIRA meetings and maintain safe working practices.

Required profile

• Technical education in Mechanics or Electronics (Bachelor or MBO level 3‑4).
• Knowledge of electricity.
• Preferably some experience in the maritime/offshore sector.
• Strong communication and problem‑solving abilities.
• Hands‑on, no‑nonsense mentality.
• Fluent written and spoken English.
• Willingness to be away from home for up to five weeks.
