Community Midwife

About the role

The Community Midwife will deliver high‑quality, evidence‑based maternal and newborn health services across PIH‑supported facilities in Maryland County. The role combines direct clinical care with community outreach, mentorship, and quality improvement activities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive pre‑conception, antenatal, intrapartum, postnatal, family planning, and newborn care, including skilled birth attendance and emergency management.
• Plan and conduct community outreach and health‑education sessions to promote utilization of maternal and newborn services.
• Assess learning needs and mentor midwives, nurses, and students, supporting continuous professional development.
• Participate in quality‑improvement initiatives, monitor service data, and implement evidence‑based protocols.
• Collaborate with facility leadership, the Maryland County Health Team, Ministry of Health, and other stakeholders to strengthen service accessibility and continuity.

Required profile

• Demonstrated clinical competence in midwifery practice and strong knowledge of maternal, newborn, reproductive, and family‑planning health.
• Excellent communication, counseling, and health‑education skills with ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
• Leadership, organization, and time‑management abilities to support mentorship and supervision activities.
