Community Midwife

About the role

The Community Midwife provides high‑quality, evidence‑based maternal and newborn health services across PIH‑supported facilities in Maryland County, combining clinical care with community outreach, mentorship and quality improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive pre‑conception, antenatal, intrapartum, postnatal, family planning and newborn care in accordance with Ministry of Health and international standards.
• Conduct assessments, identify high‑risk pregnancies, manage uncomplicated cases and refer complications promptly.
• Provide skilled birth attendance, immediate newborn care and emergency management within the scope of midwifery practice.
• Lead community outreach and health education sessions to promote utilization of maternal and newborn services.
• Mentor and supervise midwives, nurses and students, supporting capacity‑building and continuous professional development.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives, data‑driven program monitoring and implementation of clinical protocols.

Required profile

• Demonstrated clinical competence in midwifery practice and knowledge of safe motherhood, maternal‑newborn care and family planning.
• Strong communication, counseling and health‑education abilities.
• Experience in mentorship, supportive supervision and multidisciplinary teamwork.

Required skills

• Basic Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (BEmONC).
• Essential newborn care.
