Liberia Project Director – Global Health Initiative

About the role

The Liberia Project Director will lead the America First Global Health Strategy (AFGHS‑FHI 360) portfolio in Liberia, overseeing HIV, global health security, maternal & neonatal health, and polio initiatives. Reporting to the Program Director, Africa B, the role provides strategic direction, ensures compliance with donor requirements, and serves as the primary liaison with the U.S. Department of State and local stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Direct overall project vision, design, planning and implementation, ensuring goals are met within time and budget constraints.
• Manage internal systems for contracting, recruitment and service delivery, responding rapidly to on‑the‑ground needs.
• Develop and strengthen relationships with government entities, implementing partners and donors to advance project objectives.
• Lead performance management, risk mitigation, monitoring and evaluation, and ensure compliance with donor reporting.
• Provide leadership to a matrixed project team, overseeing staff onboarding, performance, professional development and accountability.
• Coordinate with FHI 360 headquarters on work plans, milestones and budgets, and represent the project in regional and global forums.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 + years of relevant experience in large‑scale health or development projects.
• Demonstrated leadership and project management expertise in multi‑partner environments.
• Strong oral and written communication, negotiation and consultative skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with local communities, government officials and donor representatives.

Required skills

• Comprehensive knowledge of project management methodologies and processes.
• Experience with monitoring, evaluation and results‑based management.
• Strong analytical, critical‑thinking and problem‑solving abilities.
