Consultant – Formative Research: Healthy Children, Safe Schools

About the role

The consultancy will lead formative research to understand determinants, motivations, barriers and touch points influencing hygiene behaviours in Grand Cape Mount County, Liberia. The findings will inform evidence‑based interventions for the Healthy Children, Safe Schools WASH and Nutrition project.

Key responsibilities

• Design and conduct formative research on handwashing, sanitation, food hygiene, water management and menstrual hygiene.
• Assess socio‑cultural, economic, physical and environmental factors that enable or hinder behaviour change.
• Evaluate perceptions, motivations and participation of women in decision‑making processes.
• Review existing policies and guidelines governing school and community facilities.
• Synthesize insights into actionable recommendations and co‑create a comprehensive hygiene behaviour change promotional package with multi‑sectoral stakeholders.

Required profile

• Proven experience in formative research, preferably in WASH, nutrition or public health contexts.
• Familiarity with community‑engaged, behaviour‑centred approaches.
• Ability to work collaboratively with NGOs, local authorities and community groups.
• Strong analytical and reporting skills.
