Wastewater Operator

About the role

The Wastewater Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a municipal wastewater treatment plant. Working under the Assistant Director of Public Works, the employee ensures that all processes meet regulatory standards while maintaining equipment and supporting laboratory activities.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and maintain pumps, wells, tanks, and related treatment equipment.
• Conduct routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and equipment troubleshooting.
• Perform water‑quality sampling, laboratory testing, and adjust treatment processes to meet compliance.
• Assist with the preventive‑maintenance program and schedule tasks as directed.
• Monitor the SCADA system, respond to alarms, and make independent operating decisions when needed.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance, test results, and operational data.
• Collaborate with supervisors to procure chemicals and supplies.
• Participate in weekend shifts and 24‑hour emergency on‑call rotations.

Required profile

• Proficiency in monitoring and adjusting equipment control systems.
• Strong understanding of wastewater treatment processes and regulatory requirements.
• Effective communication skills for reporting issues and adjustments.
• Ability to work independently and handle overtime, weekend, and emergency calls.
• Good interpersonal skills for collaboration with colleagues, vendors, and agencies.
