Assistant FAO Representative – Programme

About the role

The Assistant FAO Representative (Programme) supports the FAO Representative in delivering FAO’s strategic objectives in Liberia. Based in Monrovia, the role focuses on programme development, coordination and operational assistance, ensuring effective collaboration with government and partner institutions.

Key responsibilities

• Liaise with government authorities, national and international institutions, and UN agencies on FAO‑related activities.
• Represent FAO at inter‑agency meetings and promote the organization’s mandate through communication tools such as websites, press releases and publications.
• Coordinate the collection, consolidation and maintenance of country data on food, crops, livestock, forestry and fisheries, and monitor policy changes affecting the agricultural sector.
• Participate in the preparation of technical, economic and policy studies, and contribute to the development of the Country Programming Framework (CPF) and the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF).
• Assist in the identification, formulation and preparation of programme and project proposals, and monitor implementation to ensure compliance with operational standards.

Required profile

• University degree in agriculture, natural resources, economics, development studies or a related field.
• Experience working with government agencies, UN bodies or international development organisations.
• Strong understanding of FAO’s regulatory frameworks (e.g., Codex Alimentarius, Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries, Safe Use of Pesticides).
• Excellent communication and advocacy skills, with the ability to represent FAO in high‑level meetings.
