National Consultant Sign Language Interpreter (Retainer)

About the role
UN Women Liberia is seeking a qualified National Consultant to provide sign language interpretation services on a retainer basis. The consultant will support the organization’s commitment to disability inclusion by ensuring that all UN Women‑supported events are accessible to persons who use sign language.
Key responsibilities
- Interpret spoken English into Liberian Sign Language (and vice‑versa) during meetings, workshops, trainings, conferences and public forums.
- Review event agendas, background documents and technical materials in advance to prepare accurate interpretation.
- Ensure appropriate positioning, visibility and accessibility for in‑person, virtual and hybrid events.
- Maintain confidentiality, neutrality and professional ethics throughout all assignments.
- Coordinate with programme and operations teams to deliver timely interpretation services.
- Support UN Women’s efforts to mainstream disability inclusion and accessibility standards.
Required profile
- Certified sign language interpreter with proven experience in interpreting for formal events.
- Fluent in English and Liberian Sign Language (or other relevant national sign language).
- Familiarity with UN protocols and terminology.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse teams.
- Commitment to confidentiality and impartiality.
Required skills
- Sign language interpretation (Liberian Sign Language).
- English language proficiency.
