SQL Server Database Administrator (Remote)

About the role

Social Discovery Group is seeking an experienced SQL Server Database Administrator to join its globally distributed team. You will work remotely, ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of high‑load MS SQL databases that power social discovery platforms used by millions worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Write advanced T‑SQL scripts for SQL Server 2008–2019 and review developers' code.
• Analyze execution plans, resolve performance bottlenecks, and optimize queries, indexes, locking, and resource usage.
• Maintain and support an AlwaysOn availability group (primary + mirror) for high availability.
• Assist analysts and machine‑learning engineers with data access and retrieval.
• Perform routine maintenance: archiving, backup/recovery strategies, security policy enforcement, and data integrity checks.
• Monitor server performance, proactively prevent incidents, and troubleshoot issues remotely.

Required profile

• Hands‑on experience with MS SQL Server 2008–2019 in production environments.
• Deep understanding of Microsoft SQL Server architecture and internals.
• Strong ability to read, understand, and improve code written by others.
• Proven track record of independently identifying logical errors in database structures and scripts.

Required skills

• Advanced T‑SQL scripting (stored procedures, UDFs, triggers, distributed transactions).
• SQL Server performance tuning and execution‑plan analysis.
• Experience with AlwaysOn availability groups and high‑availability configurations.
• Database indexing, locking, and resource‑management expertise.
• Knowledge of backup, recovery, security policies, and data integrity verification.
