Job description
About the role
Evidence Action, a global nonprofit focused on evidence-based, cost-effective development programs, is hiring a Driver for its Liberia Country Team. The driver provides safe, reliable and timely transport for the country team, guests and authorised riders, supporting the SFS and KMC programs' field work in Monrovia and across all 15 counties. The role also involves safeguarding staff, passengers, program commodities and organisational assets through safe driving, vehicle maintenance and accurate records.
Key responsibilities
- Drive staff, consultants, government counterparts and visitors to meetings, health facilities and field sites, following Liberian traffic laws, speed limits and travel security policies, including no night driving except with approval.
- Transport program commodities such as test kits, supplies, equipment and training materials, and support loading, offloading and signing of delivery notes and waybills.
- Carry out daily pre-trip checks, keep the vehicle clean and roadworthy, report faults and carry out minor roadside repairs.
- Keep accurate trip, fuel and maintenance records, manage fuel cards or cash, and ensure vehicle documents stay valid.
- Report accidents, incidents or violations immediately, and deliver mail and documents between the office, ministries, banks and partners.
Required profile
- High school diploma (WASSCE) or equivalent, and a valid Liberian driver's licence for light and 4x4 vehicles.
- At least 3-5 years of professional driving experience, preferably with an NGO, UN agency, health program or international organisation.
- Proven experience driving 4x4 on unpaved, rural and rainy-season roads, with travel to counties outside Montserrado, and a clean driving record in the last five years.
- Experience transporting program supplies and keeping trip and fuel logs.
- Fluent spoken and written English; knowledge of Liberian English and local languages is an advantage.
Required skills
- Good knowledge of Liberia's road network and routes to health facilities.
- Basic vehicle mechanics and routine checks.
- Literacy and numeracy for logbooks and delivery forms.
- Basic smartphone use (GPS, maps, WhatsApp) and basic computer skills are an advantage.
Field trips last several days to two weeks with overnight stays, and working hours often include early departures, late returns, weekends and public holidays. Performance is reviewed quarterly against safety, reliability, program support, vehicle care, records, compliance and conduct.
