Maintenance Assistant – Field Instrumentation Technician

About the role

ArcelorMittal is looking for a Maintenance Assistant to support field instrumentation technicians in a dynamic industrial environment. You will work directly on plant sites, helping with the installation, removal and basic calibration of instruments while ensuring safety and tool integrity.

Key responsibilities

• Assist technicians with installing and removing field instruments such as pressure gauges, flow meters and level sensors.
• Support cable and tubing termination, mounting of enclosures and junction boxes, and basic calibration equipment setup under supervision.
• Prepare work areas, transport and set up sensitive instrumentation tools, and maintain accountability for toolkits.
• Perform basic cleaning of lenses, sensors and actuators, label loops and cables, and help with simple loop checks.
• Ensure compliance with ArcelorMittal safety standards, act as a safety watch, and participate in pre‑shift safety briefings.
• Maintain workshop housekeeping, document instrument status, file calibration certificates and dispose of hazardous waste correctly.
• Observe and learn process control principles and complete mandatory safety and technical training.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or West African Senior School Certificate (WASSCE).
• Vocational or technical training in electronics, instrumentation or a related field is preferred.
• 1–2 years of experience in a technical maintenance environment with high attention to detail.
• Basic understanding of sensors and electrical measurement units.
• Strong commitment to workplace safety.

Required skills

• Handling and operation of delicate electronic measurement devices (e.g., loop calibrators, pressure pumps, multimeters).
• Basic calibration equipment setup.
• Sensor cleaning and lens maintenance.
• Cable and loop labeling according to P&IDs.
• Performing simple loop checks and verifying signal transmission.
• Tool management and pre‑operational checks of handheld diagnostic devices.
