About the role
NTU International is seeking a Senior Climate Screening & E&S Safeguards Expert to support the EU‑funded Technical Assistance to ECOWAS in Transport Governance. The role will focus on integrating climate resilience, environmental sustainability and social inclusion into regional transport infrastructure projects across West Africa.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct climate screening and resilience assessments for transport corridors and infrastructure projects.
- Provide technical expertise on environmental and social safeguards in line with EU and international standards.
- Review and prepare Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs), Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMPs), resettlement frameworks and stakeholder engagement plans.
- Integrate climate adaptation, gender equality, disability inclusion and other social safeguards into project preparation and implementation.
- Advise ECOWAS institutions and national stakeholders on safeguard compliance and climate mainstreaming.
- Develop safeguard procedures, methodologies and technical guidance documents.
- Deliver capacity‑building workshops, technical training and support monitoring, reporting and quality assurance of safeguard activities.
Required profile
- Master’s degree in environmental sciences, environmental engineering, climate change, sustainability, social development, natural resource management or a related field.
- Minimum 10 years of professional experience in environmental and social safeguards, climate resilience or sustainable infrastructure development.
- Proven experience on infrastructure or transport projects in developing countries, preferably in Sub‑Saharan Africa.
- Experience with international development cooperation and donor‑funded programmes.
