Accounting Assistant

About the role

IITA is looking for an Accounting Assistant in Monrovia to support the financial and accounting operations of its station. The role ensures accurate financial reporting, timely bank reconciliations, proper management of cash advances, payroll processing, statutory tax compliance and secure maintenance of accounting records in line with IITA policies and applicable regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare monthly imprest reports and bank reconciliation statements, submitted accurately and on time.
• Maintain custody of accounting documents such as payment vouchers, journal vouchers, travel and cash advances and other supporting records.
• Monitor and control staff cash advances, ensuring timely retirement, proper documentation and follow-up on outstanding balances.
• Process monthly payroll for NRS project staff accurately and on time.
• Ensure timely remittance of statutory taxes and contributions, including PAYE and pension contributions.
• Assist in reconciling IITA staff welfare records.
• Perform other finance and accounting duties assigned by the supervisor.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or advanced diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field.
• At least two years of relevant accounting or finance experience, preferably in an international, NGO or development institution.
• Strong English and French, spoken and written.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, with integrity, confidentiality and good communication skills.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word.
• Sound knowledge of GAAP, standard accounting practices and financial procedures.
• Working knowledge of accounting software and ERP systems such as Oracle or equivalent.
• Numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail.
