Smart Meter Technical Specialist

About the role

The Smart Meter Technical Specialist will lead all technical activities related to smart meter deployment across residential, commercial and industrial sites in Liberia. This role covers hardware installation, software configuration, testing, commissioning and ongoing maintenance to ensure accurate measurement and reliable communication with back‑office systems.

Key responsibilities

• Lead installation and commissioning of single‑phase and three‑phase smart meters, including CT‑operated and direct‑connected configurations.
• Perform power‑up verification, tamper‑seal fitting, load‑profile setup, time synchronization and registration with HES/MDMS.
• Configure meter parameters such as tariff schedules, demand intervals, outage logging and load‑control relay settings.
• Conduct in‑service accuracy testing using portable meter test equipment, verify kWh, reactive power and demand recordings.
• Execute site and factory acceptance tests, validate CT ratio, polarity and burden.
• Test communication pathways using RF mesh, PLC, GPRS/4G and NB‑IoT protocols.
• Manage meter exchange, safe disconnection/reconnection of customer supply and accurate recording of meter constants.

Required profile

• Proven experience in smart meter installation, configuration, testing and commissioning.
• Familiarity with both hardware (meters, communication modules, current transformers) and software (MDMS, HES, billing integration) components of smart metering systems.
